Korean Army Stew / 부대찌개

This stew is invented by leftover ingredients from US army in Korea. They transformed leftover spam, sausages, beans into an amazing spicy, savory and addictive stew using Korean condiments! Isn’t it brilliant?

Ingredients
1/5 ea Korean Radish
5-10 ea Dried Anchovy
71-2 ea Kombu
1/2 can Spam
2 ea Sausages
1/4 ea Onion
2 tbsp Baked Beans
2 stems Scallion
2/3 cup Ground Beef

Beef Marinade
1/2 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tsp Garlic, minced
Pinch of Black Pepper

Sauce
2 tbsp Korean Hot Pepper Flakes
1.5 tsp Raw Brown Sugar
3 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tsp Sugar
1.5 tbsp Garlic, minced
1 tbsp Mirin
2 tbsp Water
Pinch of Sale & Pepper

Optional
Rice Cakes
Dumplings
Cheese
Hot Peppers
Ramen Noodles
Bean Sprouts


1. Bring 4 and 1/2 cups water and broth ingredients to boil over medium heat, once it’s boiling, take kombu out,

turn down the heat to medium-low, boil for another 10 minutes.  

 

2. In the meantime, mix all sauce ingredients, and marinate the beef. Set them aside.  

 

3. Cut sausages, spam and veggies into bite size.  

 

4. In a shallow pot, place everything beside ramen noodles. Pour the broth, when its boiling, add ramen.

Once noodles get soft, it’s time to enjoy!
